Ægishjálmur II Steel Finish Sporran Flap
$70.00
A highly detailed variation on the ancient original design, our Ægishjálmur II Interchangeable Flap design offers a union of the rustic runes with historically inspired elegance. Ritualistic in nature, Magical Staves were used by men and women in Viking cultures for a variety of purposes. Some served as general protective icons, intended as a form of visual prayer. Others were more specialized in intent and function, and covered topics from the extraordinary (to make oneself invisible), to the mundane (favorable weather for fishing).
Referred to as a “rune of protection” (derived from a translation of its classic name, the “Helm of Awe”), the Ægishjálmur was meant to be worn between the eyes or on the forehead as a potent stave against personal harm. Though the Ægishjálmur was first mentioned in the Poetic Eddas, no extant contemporary example has been identified. However, the tradition of the Ægishjálmur remained a key feature of Norse culture for centuries. Celtic Leatherworks offers an artist’s interpretation of this ancient symbol, encircled with Younger Futhark runes, and finished to the same excellent standards we hold for all of our leather goods.
